New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) Sports Minister M.S. Gill Wednesday said that all arrangements for the Commonwealth Games are in place and the focus now should be on the athletes.

‘Our government has spent so much money for the Games, the most by any government,’ said Gill after inspecting the Games Village with Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi.

‘I have spent almost two hours in the village and spoke to teams from at least 13 countries. Honestly, all of them said they are feeling very comfortable and are glad to be here,’ the minister told reporters.

Gill and Kalmadi also had food at the dining hall in the Village.

‘I am personally satisfied with the arrangements and situation at the Games Village and other Games venues,’ he said.

‘The South Africa chef de mission said that the facilities in this Commonwealth Games are the best.

‘The monsoon was the heaviest in 30 years. The Delhi chief minister and the Organising Committee have worked hard in the last eight or 10 days to ensure that everything is in place. Now the monsoon is gone, and days are getting better. Oct 3 (opening day) is going to be even better.

Asked about security, the minister said: ‘It is a huge factor in a crowded event, whether it is sports or anything else. Everyone is happy with security. Sometime because of heavy security, the athletes can have a problem coming in and going out. We are trying to maintain a balance.’
