Bangalore, July 15 (IANS) Mandeep Goyat of Maharashtra won the boys’ 800 metres run in a National and meet record time of one minute, 52.66 seconds as the curtains came down on the 9th National Youth Athletics championships here Sunday.
Goyat’s fine run eclipsed the previous best of 1:53.08 that Pankaj Dimri (UP) had set in 2008 as he won the two-lap race with consummate ease.
In the girls’ section, Jessy Joseph of Kerala set a Meet record with a timing of two minutes, 10.72 seconds while winning the 800 metres. She bettered the seven-year old record of 2:11.30 set by Jhuma Khatun of West Bengal.
Kerala athletes dominated the event by winning the team championships in both boys and girls section besides the overall title with a tally of 216 points, well clear of Haryana (125.5) and hosts Karnataka (104).
