Sepang, Malaysia, April 2 (DPA) McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton turned in the speediest time Friday in the first practice session ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix Formula One.

The Briton drove the 5.54-kilometre track in Sepang in one minute, 34.921 seconds.

Mercedes pilot Nico Rosberg placed second after finishing with a time of 1:35.106, putting him ahead of Hamilton teammate Jenson Button at 1:35.207, who was third after coming off a win in Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix.

Rounding out the top five were out-of-retirement Michael Schumacher in a Mercedes and Robert Kubica in a Renault at the Sepang International Circuit, 60 kilometres south of Kuala Lumpur.

A second practice session is scheduled for later Friday, ahead of Saturday’s qualifying and Sunday’s race, the third of the Formula One season.
