New Delhi, March 30 (IANS) The Delhi Metro ridership of fell considerably Wednesday as India and Pakistan clashed in the second semifinal of World Cup 2011.

According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the footfalls by 8 p.m. Wednesday were 11.35 lakh against 12.91 lakh recorded last Wednesday.

‘There was a huge decrease in the footfalls, perhaps because most people chose to stay home for the match,’ a DMRC official told IANS.

According to DMRC estimates, the average daily ridership is approximately 14 lakh.

According to a survey by Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham), most people have admitted that they won’t be able to concentrate on their work owing to the high-voltage India-Pakistan clash. Some 500 corporate employees in 50 offices in Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh, Pune and Bangalore were surveyed.

Around 60 percent of employees have given casual leave applications for Wednesday, the survey states.
