New Delhi, Sep 14 (IANS) Indian Premier League (IPL) chief executive officer Sundar Raman is likely to depose against suspended IPL chairman Lalit Modi in the disciplinary committee hearing of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), an official said.
‘Sundar Raman was involved in all the IPL dealing and so naturally he will be questioned during the hearing. This is a routine process,’ a top official in the IPL governing council told IANS.
The disciplinary committee, probing charges of financial irregularities against Modi, was scheduled to meet Tuesday morning but this had to be suspended until evening with panel member Jyotiraditya Scindia unable to attend due to illness.
The hearing finally started at 6 p.m. at Scindia’s residence here.
‘Modi’s advocate Sailesh Mendon appeared before the panel along with two of his colleague advocates and requested that the matter be taken up tomorrow (Wednesday),’ BCCI disciplinary committee said in a statement.
‘Menon contends that the hearing before the Bombay High Court has been concluded and the writ petition is fixed for orders Sep 15 morning.
‘There are four witnesses present. Three of them have come from England and one from South Africa.’
‘While considering the request of Mr. Mendon, we suggested that we can resume the hearing at 9.00 a.m. in the morning so that the witnesses who have come from England could be examined expeditiously and these witnesses do not have to come back again,’ the statement said.
‘However, Mr. Mendon requested the hearing be fixed at 2.00pm tomorrow. It is made clear that this is the last opportunity to Mr. Modi for cross examination of these witnesses,’ the statement said.
The hearing will commence at 2.00 p.m here Wednesday.
