Kolkata, January 22 (IANS) Boy’s sixth seed Vasisht Cheruku of India pulled off a thrilling three-set victory over higher ranked Chinese Alingxi Zhao to move into the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior final here on Friday.
Cheruku came back after dropping the first set in the semi-final to carve out a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win to set up a summit clash with Ray Ho of Chinese Taipei on the red clay courts of the Dakshin Kalikata Sansad on Saturday.
Ho bettered India’s Rishi Reddy in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in a last four battle.
Third seed Zhao got an early break in the opening set, going into a 3-0 lead.
The two rivals then held serves and Zhao successfully grabbed the set.
In the second set, Cheruku displayed patience and raised his game to another level, and then demolished his opponent in the crucial tenth game to pocket the set.
The decider saw several break of serves but again Cheruku broke the Chinese in the tenth game to close the issue.
The Girls singles final will be an all Taipei affair with third seeded En SHuo Liang taking on Pei Hsuan Chen.
