New Delhi, July 2 (IANS) Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi has sought the help of Sports Minister M.S. Gill to ‘convince’ the Indian cricket board to reschedule the two Test matches at home against Australia as the dates clash with the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games.
‘I write to seek your good offices to try and convince the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reschedule the two Test matches between India and Australia so that it do not clash with the Commonwealth Games,’ Kalmadi said in a statement Friday.
The first Test is scheduled in Mohali from Oct 2 while the second Test will take place in Bangalore (Oct 10).
‘I had written to Sharad Pawar as early as in July 1, 2009 seeking due consideration by the BCCI to ensure that it does not schedule any major cricket series during the Commonwealth Games,’ said the president of the Indian Olympic Association.
India will also play three one-dayers against Australia — Kochi (Oct 19), Goa (Oct 22) and Visakhapatnam (Oct 24).
