New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) After the Commonwealth Games Village, the Australian contingent Wednesday showered praise on the venues, particularly the ones for wrestling, cycling and gymnastics.
‘Great venues out there… the cycling stadium… amazing wrestling facility… I have never seen a wrestling facility like this… the gymnastics venue was terrific,’ Australian Chef-de-mission Steve Moneghetti told mediapersons at the Village.
So far around 100 members of the Australian contingent have arrived and more are expected in the next 24 hours, Moneghetti said.
Expressing happiness with the facilities at the Games Village, he said: ‘No issues with anything to report and village life is going very well’
The Aussie official was also satisfied with the security provided to the team. ‘Athletes are going out to train and it seems to be working pretty well at the moment. The gymnasts went out to their training centres yesterday (Tuesday) on the buses and we all got out there and got back fine.’
Nineteen-year-old Australian gymnast Lauren Mitchell, who bagged the silver medal in balance beam and floor exercise at the 2009 world championship, said the guns of the security personnel made her feel ‘more comfortable’.
On her stay at the Village, Mitchell said: ‘Our rooms are pretty spacious and comfortable. It looks like the shabby pictures in the media were taken ages ago.’
Two weeks ahead of the Games, the organisers came in for flak as pictures of unclean toilets, stained bedsheets and staircases at the Village were splashed across the world media.
