Raipur July 22 (IANS) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh was Thursday elected chairman of the state olympic association amid a boycott by a section of the office-bearers.

The association office-bearers met here at a hotel where the outgoing chairman Anil Verma first resigned from the post and then moved a proposal for electing Raman Singh as his successor.

Officials said that the proposal was approved by the majority of the office-bearers amid a boycott by a few office-bearers linked to state’s opposition Congress party.

After approving the proposal, the association members met the chief minister at his official residence and informed about the decision. Raman Singh accepted the chairman’s post.

A state government press statement said that Raman Singh assured the office-bearers that he would strive to take sports in the state to a new high and would also ensure that the National Games scheduled in the state in 2013, would be a historic event.
