New Delhi, Sep 24 (IANS) With just eight days to go for the Commonwealth Games, Uganda Friday expressed its concern about safety and disappointment at the ‘slow progress’ in the completion of the Games venues and Village.
‘The progress is very slow. Our delegation is here studying all aspects of concerns, safety, security and health. We will be able to come out with a decision by Monday,’ Minister counsellor Dora Kutesa, the mission head for CWG2010, told IANS.
With the collapse of a footbridge and other safety and security concerns, the East African nation will delay the arrival of its participants till its delegation, which began visiting the venues and Village Friday, gives the nod to its government.
‘We all would like to participate in the games because it is not just India, it is a family of many countries. We want to make this successful, but we have other concerns. We cannot put anybody’s life at risk in the name of game,’ Kutesa said.
Uganda is, however, uncertain of full participation.
‘We were initially expecting at least 100 participants but now we are not sure how many, but most likely lesser participants,’ she added.
