Raipur, April 5 (Inditop.com) Chhattisgarh, one of the worst Maoist-militancy hit states in the country, is short of 20 percent of the required weapons, a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) said.

“The police headquarters had assessed a total requirement of 47,265 units (of weapons) under various categories, against which the availability was 37,911 units only. Therefore, there was an overall shortage of 9,354 units (20 percent of the requirement) for the whole state,” the CAG said in a recently released report on Chhattisgarh for the year ended March 31, 2009.

The report said that “there were shortages in rifles, pistols/revolvers, Light Machine Guns (LMG), AK 47 rifles, 51 mm mortars and Grenade Fire rifles”.

“It was further observed that during 2006-09, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had allotted 14,183 units of modern weapons against the total demand of 19,334 units raised by the Chhattisgarh police,” the report added.
