New Delhi, Oct 27 (Inditop.com) A Bangladeshi wanted for terror activities in his country and suspected to be behind the Mehrauli bomb blast in Delhi last year has been arrested here along with an accomplice, the police said Tuesday.

Mehboob, 26, and Muneer, 25, were arrested near Nizamuddin flyover in south Delhi around 4 p.m. Monday. The police recovered a loaded pistol and a knife from their possession.

Mehboob hails from Dhaka and Muneer is a resident of Nizamuddin Basti in south Delhi.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south Delhi) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said about three years ago Mehboob was arrested in Bangladesh in a case related to terrorism. He later escaped to India and came in contact with Muneer, who had already been convicted in a murder and robbery case of west Delhi.

Two people were killed and many injured in the Sep 27, 2008, Mehrauli blast. “Some Bangladeshi criminals were interrogated and their movements were checked,” he said.

“On interrogation of these criminals a tip off was received that a Bangladeshi terrorist is taking shelter in Delhi and would come to Nizamuddin area. Mehboob was then arrested along with Muneer,” he said.

The police said Mehboob had worked with Tunda, a terrorist who was killed in a shoot out with police in Kamangi Chowk area of Bangladesh.

“Mehboob disclosed that he was arrested by Bangladesh police from Kamangi Chowk area and seven bombs were then recovered from him. He remained in jail for many years and was released last year. He escaped to India with the help of an agent. His other associates Parvez and Kalu are still in jail in Bangladesh,” Dhaliwal said.

“We are now verifying his movements at the time of the Mehrauli blast. Help from concerned intelligence agencies is also being sought,” he added.
