Agartala, Nov 10 (Inditop.com) At least six villagers were killed and another injured by tribal separatists in a daring raid Tuesday in India’s northeastern state of Tripura, officials said.

A police spokesperson said heavily armed militants of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) attacked Bhandirama village early Tuesday, about 140 km north of state capital Agartala.

The victims were all family members of some NLFT militants who had surrendered before authorities in the past few days.

“The NLFT militants entered the village and identified the houses belonging to some of the surrendered rebels and then fired indiscriminately using automatic weapons,” police spokesperson Nepal Das told IANS.

“We are yet to get details of the attack as the village is located on the edge of the Bangladesh border and is almost inaccessible.”

“All those who were killed or injured were relatives of two to three surrendered NLFT militants,” Das said.

The NLFT is a rebel group fighting for an independent tribal homeland and operates out of Bangladesh.
