Srinagar, Dec 17 (Inditop) Two commanders of the Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district Wednesday while voting was underway in the adjacent areas of Anantnag and Kulgam, police said while describing the operation as a major success against separatist guerrillas.One of the slain guerrillas has been identified as Rayees Kachru, divisional commander of the outfit who had escaped from police custody in Pulwama, and the other as Ashfaq.
Giving details, an official said the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the local police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Rashtriya Rifles carried out a “pin-pointed operation” based on specific information in Mulhurah village, 33 km from here, in Pulwama district.
“Rayees Kachru and another commander of the Hizbul identified as Ashfaq have been killed in this operation without any casualty to the security forces,” he added.
Kachru had escaped from the Pulwama court complex on Nov 4 this year. His accomplices had reportedly handed him a pistol inside the court complex after which he fired at his police escort.
The sixth round of polling was underway in Jammu and Kashmir.
