Beijing, May 1 (IANS) Ten people were killed and 35 others injured in a hotel fire in China’s Jilin Province early Sunday morning, Xinhua reported citing local authorities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire started at the stair hall, sending heavy smoke up the floors. The ten people died of asphyxiation.
The 35 injured people have been hospitalised.
The fire broke out at about 3.30 a.m. at the No. 1 store of Home Inns, the country’s largest budget hotel operator, in Dongchang District of Tonghua City in Jilin Province, the city’s publicity department said a statement.
The fire was doused about half an hour later.
Fire fighters found no further deaths or injuries after checking the scene five times.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched into the incident.
