Islamabad, Dec 6 (IANS) At least 20 people were killed and more than 40 injured Monday in two successive blasts in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Geo TV reported.
The blast took place at a building in Mohmand agency district where a group of tribal elders were holding a meeting.
‘The first blast took place at the gate and the second one in the office of the assistant political agent,’ a security official said.
Reports said the number of casualties is feared to rise as a meeting of tribal elders was underway in the office situated in Ghalnai area.
Rescue workers and security officials have reached the spot.
The incident took place a day after the Inspector General of Frontier Corps said that militants have been flushed out from 85 percent of the tribal area. The region has been witnessing intense battles between the Pakistani military and militants in the past few years.
