Rawalpindi, July 2 (Inditop.com) A suicide bomber blew himself up after ramming his motorcycle into a bus in this Pakistani city, killing at least six people and injuring 25.
Six people were killed in the blast and at least 25 people were critically injured in the blast that took place in Chauhar Chowk of Rawalpindi, Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi Nasir Durrani told reporters.
The motorcyclist rammed into the bus parked near a petrol pump and blew himself up.
There were conflicting reports about the government department which the bus belonged to.
While a report said that it belonged to the Heavy Mechanical Complex which is a leading engineering goods manufacturing enterprise located at Taxila, about 30 km north of Islamabad, some reports said that the bus belonged to the Kahuta Research Laboratories, Pakistan’s main nuclear institution.
A taxi driver, who was close to the bus, said: “I heard a loud sound.”
He said that he couldn’t see or hear for a while after the blast. The window panes of the taxi were shattered in the powerful explosion.
The blast took place on a day when there were reports that Pakistan’s Taliban chief Maulana Fazlullah may have been killed in the army’s offensive in the Swat valley.
