Monterrey (Mexico), Feb 1 (IANS/EFE) Army troops found the partially burned bodies of six men on a highway outside Monterrey, the capital of the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, police said.
The bodies were found just after midday Sunday on the Monterrey-Colombia highway in Escobedo, a city in the Monterrey metropolitan area, said the Nuevo Leon State Investigations Agency, or AEI.
The victims were blindfolded and appeared to have been tortured, the AEI said.
Nuevo Leon Attorney General’s Office personnel transported the bodies to the coroner’s office at Universitario Hospital, where autopsies will be performed, the AEI said.
Nuevo Leon and neighbouring Tamaulipas state are dealing with a wave of violence unleashed by drug traffickers battling for control of smuggling routes into the US.
