New Delhi, April 17 (Inditop.com) Air India Saturday said it has suspended all flights scheduled for Sunday to Europe, the US and Canada following volcanic ash spreading over Europe.

According to a top Air India official, the disruptions are expected to continue till next week. The airlines had already cancelled all the eight flights to Britain, Europe and North America scheduled for Saturday.

“As the European airspace continued to remain closed following the volcanic eruption in Iceland, Air India has suspended all westbound flights to Europe, US and Canada on April 18 (Sunday),” the airline said in a statement.

The AI flights cancelled are: Delhi-Paris-Delhi, Delhi-London-Delhi, Mumbai-London-Mumbai, Mumbai-Frankfurt-Chicago-Frankfurt-Mumbai, Mumbai-New York-Mumbai, Delhi-New York-Washington-New York-Delhi, Delhi-Frankfurt-Delhi, Delhi-London-Toronto-London-Delhi and Ahmedabad-Frankfurt-Newark-Frankfurt-Ahmedabad.

The airline said passengers of the cancelled flights will be given the choice of taking flights at a later date without any penalty or get a full refund on tickets.

Another leading private carrier, Jet Airways, said it has cancelled flights bound for London, Brussels and New York.

“We have cancelled our flights to and from London, and to Brussels and New York (JFK) from Chennai, scheduled for Sunday (April 18) pending the reopening of European airports and air space,” a spokesperson for Jet Airways said.

“In case of cancellation or rescheduling of travel plan, all penalties have been waived as a gesture of goodwill,” the airline said.
