London, May 4 (IANS) English football club Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger on Monday said he is not plotting any drastic changes to his squad this summer because he is convinced they have made progress this season.
“We have improved a lot this season. Our defensive record since January is outstanding. We are not in need of absolute change (this summer),” Wenger was quoted as saying by arsenal.com.
“We have a strong squad and we have some strong young players behind. We are not close to signing anybody, we have a very big squad, so we need to lose some players as well.
“We have a big squad now, we have (Lucas) Podolski away,(Joel) Campbell, (Yaya) Sanogo will come back,” he said.
The Gunners are well placed to finish second in the Premier League and have clinched a spot in their second successive FA Cup final.
Their run of 17 wins from their past 20 matches has underlined their potential and Wenger is confident they can go even further next year.
“I think we will be judged at the end of the season (on) May 30 after the FA Cup final (and on) where are we in the Premier League.
“We’ll see how well we have done. That’s why it is vital to keep the focus and hunger to go as strong as we can until the end.
“What will be interesting (next season is), let’s get a new start and see where we stand.
“We feel we have made up some ground, and that will be the challenge of next season from the start.
“Let’s show we are there and capable of fighting for (the title),” he said.
