Shanghai, April 30 (IANS) A man has sought the support of at least 1,000 people who have shaved their head bald to stop a lighting project that he says will cause pollution. People who shave off their head are called ‘light bulbs’ here, a media report said.

The man, who is known online as Xiaoyanzi, is looking for 1,000 bald people to stop the Guangzhou city authorities from spending 150 million yuan ($23 million) on the lighting project.

Shanghai Daily reported that he has shaved off his head and posted pictures on his microblog page on Weibo.com. He has now asked others to join him because the ‘brain is brighter’.

He said that if there are enough bald people to light up the Guangzhou night, the government would not have to spend so much money on the project.

In China, people who shave their heads completely bald are dubbed ‘light bulbs’ since the two have a resemblance in shape. Also, bald heads are considered bright.

Xiaoyanzi’s bald message has been forwarded over 4,500 times.

He said that the lighting project would cause light pollution and the electricity bill would be 60 million yuan annually.
