Rio de Janeiro, Oct 18 (IANS) Brazil has over 130 cellphone subscriptions for every 100 inhabitants, said authorities.
There are 258.8 million active cellphone subscriptions for Brazil’s 193.9 million population, and Brasilia has the largest subscription/inhabitant ratio of 220 to 100, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) said Wednesday.
Out of the 258.8 million subscriptions, 57.28 million users had broadband internet access, reported Xinhua.
In the first half of the year, 6.8 million smart phones were sold in the country, up 77 percent from the same period last year, according to consulting company IDC Brazil.
Sales of tablet PCs, another mobile device, rose 275 percent in the second quarter of 2012, and were expected to reach 2.6 million units by the end of the year.
