London, April 23 (Inditop) Britain’s security intelligence agency MI5 wants to recruit a gadget guru – a real-life counterpart of Q who always pops up to help out James Bond with an array of gadgets.

“We are looking for a Chief Scientific Adviser to lead and coordinate the scientific work of the Security Service (that is, MI5) so that the Service continues to be supported by excellent science and technology advice,” the agency has said on its website, inviting applications.

Candidates should have world-class scientific expertise and credibility in relevant scientific and technology disciplines, excellent strategic skills, outstanding influencing and communication skills, and a successful track record of managing critical projects and processes in a complex environment.

Applications are invited from only British citizens, by April 24.

The media has already compared the new job with “quarter master” or Q, a character from Bond.

“How would James Bond have defeated Goldfinger without the assistance of the ever-loyal Q? No matter how exotic the location, Q always popped up bearing an endlessly inventive and often improbable set of gadgets.

“Today Britain’s security service, known as the MI5, is looking to hire a real-life Q, or ‘chief scientific adviser’ as the agency is calling it,” the ABC News reported.

“It probably sounds like a fun job, but what they’ll be looking for is an eminent scientist,” it quoted security analyst Sally Lievesley as saying.

“They’ll be wanting someone who can communicate very quickly to the prime minister if we’ve got an emergency.”
