London, Sep 9 (IANS) A burglar left behind a bag containing his name and complete contact details written inside it after breaking into a house in Britain. Not surprisingly, he was an easy catch for the police.
David Hanlon left behind a police property bag that was given to him by the police after he was caught earlier in the day for an unrelated robbery. Soon after he was let off on bail, he struck at another house where he left the bag.
He stole the owner’s car keys and then sped off in her vehicle, Daily Express reported Thursday.
Police officers spotted the bag in the garden and Hanlon proved to be easiest of arrests.
Hanlon has now been jailed for four years.
Bradford Crown Court was told that Hanlon had been questioned by sleuths about an unrelated burglary before being released on bail. But Hanlon broke into another house while the female occupant was asleep. The incident took place in July.
Hanlon pleaded guilty Tuesday to burglary, two offences of theft of a motor vehicle and going equipped for theft.
Judge Peter Benson noted: ‘You (Hanlon) are a persistent burglar who burgles on a grand scale.’
‘Although there are some amateurish features to your conduct which led to you being apprehended, nonetheless you are a scourge to householders, and burglary is a very serious matter which causes great distress to people whose houses are invaded and property taken.’
