London, June 19 (DPA) British Prime Minister David Cameron paid tribute Saturday to Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi on her 65th birthday and promised London would do everything it could to help Myanmar achieve democracy.
In an open letter, Cameron said the thoughts of Britain and of the world were with her in which it was ‘yet another birthday under house arrest – cut off from your children and your family.’
He added: ‘The injustice of your continuing detention mirrors the injustice that the regime has inflicted on your country and your people for so many years.’
Cameron said that Nobel Peace Prize laureate Suu Kyi, who has spent 14 of the past 20 years under house arrest had ‘stood firm’ for the principles of liberty and justice.
‘You have become a powerful symbol of the strength of the human spirit,’ the British leader said in one of many messages from leaders around the world to the Myanmar human rights champion.
