Madrid, June 11 (IANS) Goalkeeper Iker Casillas’ father believes his son should continue playing at Spanish club Real Madrid until he hangs up his boots, despite the club’s interest in signing David De Gea.
De Gea is currently playing for English club Manchester United.
“He should not leave. Hopefully he can finish his career at the club that he joined 25 years ago,” Casillas’ father was quoted as saying by goal.com on Thursday.
Casillas has spent his entire footballing tenure at Real but his future is under threat after a few high profile howlers.
As a result, Madrid are pursuing a move for De Gea, which would mean the club captain would likely be relegated to second choice between the posts.
The 34-year-old also faces stiff competition from Costa Rican Keylor Navas, who joined Madrid last summer from fellow Spanish side Levante.
