London, Dec 12 (IANS) A child died after she swallowed heroin that was left lying around a house in Britain, a court was told.
Nineteen-month-old Kinara Ebrahim is believed to have picked up the drug after it was dropped by a visitor to her grandparents’ home, Daily Express reported Sunday.
Nottingham Coroners Court was told that Ebrahim had been home in St Ann’s, Nottingham, while her parents were away at work March 30 this year.
Tony Webster, a police official, said that two people with connections to drugs were known to visit the house.
Though they had been arrested, there wasn’t enough evidence to charge them and prove they had dropped the heroin on the floor or in a bin.
‘We know the child was very adept at crawling round the house and would go in waste baskets and pick up things,’ Webster was quoted as saying.
An autopsy detected a sweet wrapper in her stomach, which the girl is believed to have swallowed.
