Beijing, Nov 1 (IANS) A total of 2,730 solar-powered TV sets have been given to herdsmen in northwest China.
The TV sets were donated to those without access to electricity due to the area’s high altitude and difficult terrain, reported Xinhua.
The herdsmen are in Hotan prefecture in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
Featuring solar photovoltaic cells, batteries and satellite receivers, these TV sets can receive 51 TV channels, including 11 ethnic channels, at an altitude above 3,500 metres.
Each TV set is about the size of a suitcase and can easily be carried on horseback by herdsmen moving to other pastures.
