Beijing, Jan 4 (IANS) China will relocate over 100,000 poverty-hit farmers to their new homes this year as part of the first phase of a rehabilitation project.

The first batch of 101,300 farmers in Guizhou will move into their new homes before the Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, Feb 10, the People’s Daily reported Friday.
A total of two million farmers will be relocated as part of the rehabilitation project.
The new settlements are being built near towns and industrial parks where job opportunities are plenty, the daily said.
