Melbourne, Jan 12 (IANS) Cricket Australia (CA) Wednesday decided to donate $100,000 for the Queensland flood victims.

The floods have resulted in large-scale destruction in the state and 12 people have died so far.

CA Chairman Jack Clarke said the natural disaster had affected the lives of many Australians and it was appropriate for the cricketers to do their bit.

‘There is nothing good in this crisis but it has been reassuring to see how strongly the wider community has responded by offering its support to their fellow Australians,’ Clarke said.

‘It has been heartening to hear of cricket clubs putting on sausage sizzles to raise money, fans wanting to make donations, Australian and English male and female cricketers offering to help and cricket’s commercial partners calling to ask what they can do to help.’

Earlier, CA had planned the Jan 30 One-day International between England and Australia as a fund raiser but the massive damages caused by the floods have prompted the board to put match donation collection boxes at the two Twenty20 Internationals between the arch-rivals in Adelaide and Melbourne.
