Dhaka, June 9 (IANS) The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has asked the government to make public the deals signed during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week.
It was the “government’s failure” that the Teesta Water Sharing Treaty was not signed during Modi’s Dhaka visit, party spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon said on Tuesday, according to bdnews24.com.
“The media reported that many deals, protocols and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed, but the BNP and the people do not know the details of those treaties,” he said, when asked about BNP’s reaction to the deals inked with India.
“We urge the government to make these deals public.”
On non-materialisation of the Teesta deal, the BNP international affairs secretary said, “As a nation we are disappointed and it’s the government’s failure.”
The party, however, viewed as positive the deals inked over improving connectivity between the India and Bangladesh.
During Modi’s visit, a number of agreements, protocols, and MoUs were signed to strengthen trade and connectivity between the two countries.
The two countries also exchanged the instruments of the Land Boundary Agreement ratification.
Former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia also had a brief meeting with the Indian premier.
