Dubai, Feb 29 (IANS/WAM) The total value of exports from Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), crossed three billion dirhams (over $800 million) in 2011.
The largest share of exports — 61 percent — went to Gulf countries while Africa accounted for 35 percent. The remaining four percent was distributed among countries in Asia and Europe and the rest of the world.
Food products, electronics and petrochemicals were the leading exports from Dubai.
The Gulf region took in 82 percent of the food products. Europe (eight percent) and Africa (five percent) were the next major export destinations with the remaining share went to Asia and other parts of the world.
Africa accounted for the lion’s share of electronics exports from Dubai in 2011, receiving more than 87 percent. Europe remained the main export market for plastics with a share of 89 percent while 92 percent of construction exports went to Gulf countries.
