Tehran, Aug 29 (IANS) Spy agencies of several ‘enemy’ countries are striving hard to infiltrate and influence Iran’s academic centres, Minister of Science, Research, and Technology Kamran Daneshjoo said Sunday.
‘Enemies are trying to change the Islamic atmosphere of the universities into their own favourite atmosphere of liberal-democracy and to give a new definition for Islamic values based on their own views,’ Daneshjoo said.
According to Fars News Agency, the minister reiterated the remarks of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and said: ‘How can one rest under such conditions? Enemies are active in this regard because they have realised the importance of universities.’
Last year, the Supreme Leader’s representative to the universities Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Mohammadian said those seeking to spark a velvet revolution in Iran have hatched plots to start a regime change plan from the universities for they view the country’s academic centres as their strategic field of activity.
‘It is natural that in our society and many other societies, universities are the centres of thinking and understanding. Hence, those seeking a soft overthrow of the Islamic Republic naturally view universities as the strategic domain of their activity as much as we attach importance to universities for the consolidation of the tenets of the Islamic Revolution,’ Mohammadian had said.
