Bucharest, Aug 17 (DPA) A fire in a Bucharest clinic killed four newborns and seven others were still fighting for their lives, the Mediafax news agency said Tuesday.

The fire broke out Monday evening in a room with incubators for prematurely born babies of the gynaecology and obstetric Giuliesti clinic.

Three newborns died immediately, another one succumbed overnight, while seven others suffered severe burns.

Preliminary findings indicated that an improvised, poorly insulated power supply for an air-conditioner caused the fire. Investigators also said that they were looking into why the staff were slow in reacting to the fire.
