Berlin, May 19 (IANS) German police have opened an investigation into the offence by Dynamo Dresden footballer Dennis Erdmann when he injured Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus in a German Cup match on March 3.

According to police on Tuesday, the action was “not a foul in the sporting confrontation, but an attack in order to eliminate the competition opponent”, reports Efe.
Erdmann, with the ball away from action, hit Reus in the thigh that forced the latter’s substitution. While the ball was nowhere near, Erdmann hit Reus in the thigh, forcing him to leave the field, police said.
Reus received a summon from the prosecution to testify about incident, player’s agent Dirke Hebbel confirmed. However, the Dortmund player wants the case to simply be over, and decided not to file a complaint, despite the prosecutor’s recommendation.
