Belgrade, Oct 28 (IANS) A gunman was killed after he fired rounds at the US embassy in Sarajevo with automatic weapon Friday afternoon, according to Bosnian local medias.
‘A man which is a member of Wahhabi, aged about 40, shot at the US embassy with a Kalashnikov,’ said the Bosnian national radio, reported Xinhua.
The gunman was shot dead by police sniper after exchanging fire with police, according to the website of 24 Hours Info.
A policeman and several people outside the embassy were injured in the incident. No injury was reported inside the building.
According to the website of Bosnian daily Avaz, witnesses said the gunshots were heard from a technical school, and the gunman with beard looks like ‘oriental’.
Avaz quoted unconfirmed information from police sources that there were four gunmen in all. Two of them were injured by police shooting, and the other is believed to be at large.
Bosnia has small minority of followers of Wahhabism, an ultra-conservative brand of Islam. A lot of volunteers from Muslim countries went to Bosnia, and took part in the 1992-1995 civil war between the Croats, Serbs and Muslims
