Beijing, Sep 28 (IANS) A majority of people – more than 50 percent – win lawsuits filed against government officials in a province in China, officials statistics say.
The Higher People’s Court in Jiangsu province said in a statement that over half of the plaintiffs who filed lawsuits against local government officials in the past 20 years have actually won their cases, the Global Times reported.
A court official, who made the announcement, also said 10 lawsuits involved cases that had helped improve an administrative procedural law. The court receives over 6,000 cases involving government officials every year, 60 percent of which are related to house demolition disputes, social security and land expropriation issues.
According to government regulations, officials are required to appear in court in the case of an administrative lawsuit.
A total of 1,690 officials showed up in court last year.
