Beijing, April 7 (Inditop.com) Chinese President Hu Jintao and US President Barack Obama will discuss a wide range of issues during their meeting on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington next week, Vice Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai said Wednesday.

“The two leaders will have an in-depth exchange of views on a wide range of issues,” Xinhua quoted Cui as saying.

Hu and Obama held talks over phone April 2 on issues of common concern and “reached a new consensus”, Cui told reporters.

China was ready to strengthen cooperation with the US in various areas, he said.

Hu will attend the summit from April 12-13 in Washington.

According to Cui, Hu will deliver a speech at the summit, stressing the importance of nuclear security.

Hu will also clarify China’s policy on nuclear security, and make a proposal to deal with the global nuclear security challenges.

So far, representatives from 46 countries, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the European Union (EU), and other international organisations have confirmed their attendance.

China hopes the summit will boost international cooperation to ensure safety of nuclear materials and facilities, as well as the peaceful use of nuclear energy, he said.
