Karachi, July 26 (IANS) Shahid Afridi, who resigned as Pakistan captain after the first Test against Australia at Lord’s, has expressed his delight and satisfaction at seeing his teammates level the Test series against Australia at Headingley.
Afridi said he could not watch the whole match, but followed the score and action whenever he could.
‘I was travelling from London to Dubai when the final day’s play was going on and found out when I landed in Dubai that the boys had won. I was delighted for them and it was great that Pakistan has finally beaten Australia in a Test match. Finally we can now ignore that statistic in future,’ Afrdi was quoted as saying in PakPassion.net.
Afridi, 30, confirmed he had been on the phone to his teammates and congratulated them on the three-wicket victory.
‘Yes I spoke to a few of the boys after the victory, including Umar Gul, who I congratulated on scoring the winning runs. The spirits are high and morale was good. The boys were very pleased and looking forward to the series against England.’
