Pathum Thani (Thailand), June 25 (IANS) Reigning Asian champion shot putter Inderjeet Singh and men’s 800 metres specialist Jinson Johnson struck gold for the second time at the ongoing second leg of the Asian Grand Prix Series while Asian Games 400m men’s bronze medallist Arokya Rajiv notched up his personal best of 45.81 seconds to bring up the third gold for India here on Thursday.
Overall, Indians finished with 10 medals, including two silvers and five bronzes in addition to three golds, bettering their tally of eight in the first leg held at Bangkok.
Johnson won the men’s 800m gold clocking 1:49.85 (he clocked 1:48.52 in the first leg) while reigning Asian champion in shot put Inderjeet brought the second gold for India with a throw of 19.85m (he threw 19.83m in the first leg).
Long jumper Ankit Sharma clinched his second silver in the Asian GP Series with an effort of 7.80m (he jumped 7.78m in the first leg). M. Gomathi bagged silver in women’s 800m, clocking 2:06:25 (she clocked 2:07.48 in the first leg) while in women’s 100m hurdles, Gayathri Govindraj won the bronze in 13.66 seconds while Meghana Shetty finished sixth, clocking 14.22.
Srabani Nanda also bagged her second bronze in the ongoing series, this time clocking 11.72 in the women’s 100m sprint (she clocked 11.58 in the first leg). Her compatriot Archana finished sixth (12.04).
Silver medallist in 400m at the 2015 Asian Championships, M.R. Poovamma won the bronze medal in women’s 400m, clocking 52.72 (53.51 in first leg) while Anilda Thomas finished fifth, clocking 54.35 (53.51s in first leg).
India added two more bronze medals to their kitty in the men’s and women’s 4x100m relays. The men’s team finished in 39.60 seconds while the women clocked 45.33.
In other results, young discus thrower Navjeet Kaur Dhillon had a best effort of 51.95m while women triple jumper N.V. Sheena finished sixth with 12.34m.
In men’s javelin throw, Devender Singh finished fourth with a best throw of 73.73m, improving from his sixth place finish in the previous leg where he had a best effort of 69.58m.
