Bangkok, Aug 2 (IANS) Delhi youngster Honey Baisoya played a superb par round with two birdies and two bogeys to put India in second place at the end of the first round of the 32nd Asia-Pacific Junior Golf Championships at the Royal Hills Golf Resort and Spa here Tuesday.

The 14-year-old Baisoya’s 72 was the best Indian score and the second best of the day, during which there were only three sub-par scores, all 71 each. India’s other two scores, which counted towards the team total were from Group A (15-17 years) Trishul Chinappa (74) and Syed Saqib Ahmed (74) and India’s total of 220 was two behind hosts Thailand’s 218. Hong Kong were third at 221 and Chinese Taipei fourth at 223.

In the individual competition, Thailand’s Thirawat Chantrakantanond, Lok Tin Liu (HKG), and Taipei’s Lee Chieh-Po all shot 71 each, while Baisoya in Group B had 72, the same as three others.

India’s other players in Group A are Tarundeep Chadha (84), Rahul Ravi (77) and Yashas Chandra (83) and in Group B, it is Viraj Madappa (76) and Feroz Garewal (80).

The girls competition with Gurbani Singh and Meher Atwal in Group A and Aditi Ashok in Group B start play later as will Karundeep Kochar in Group C boys.
