Kuala Lumpur, July 20 (IANS) Hundreds of Hindu devotees have been going to the Midlands Estate in Shah Alam near here to see a ‘tree deity’ that has come to be known as Amman.
It all began when some devotees noticed a light emitting from the ‘face’ on a mango tree at night.
This prompted many more people to go there to witness the phenomenon since last Saturday.
The incident has been reported in Tamil Nesan, Makkal Osai and Malaysia Nanban, all Tamil language dailies.
According to the reports, some of the devotees burn camphor and conduct prayers at the tree.
A yellow sari has also been draped around the tree, which is near a temple that is under construction. The temple will be known as Madurai Meenachi Amman.
Malaysia is home to 1.7 million ethnic Indians, a bulk of them Tamil Hindus.
