Astana, April 2 (IANS) Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev named his chief of staff Karim Massimov as the new prime minister Wednesday after Serik Akhmetov resigned from the post.
The announcement was made through a Twitter message posted by the presidential press office, Xinhua reported.
Massimov served as the Kazakh prime minister from January 2007 to September 2012 before Akhmetov.
“In accordance with the constitution, the head of state has accepted my resignation,” Akhmetov told a government meeting earlier Wednesday.
“I want to thank President Nursultan Nazarbayev on behalf of myself and my government for his trust.”
Akhmetov said his government would keep working until a new government was formed.
Akhmetov, 55, is a former first deputy prime minister.
