Mexico City, Nov 17 (IANS/EFE) Revenues from Mexico’s tourism sector increased by 3.2 percent in the second quarter this year over the same period in 2011, the Tourism Secretariat said.

Tourism officials said in a communique Thursday that revenues from internal tourism grew between April and June this year by 2.1 percent, while the amount from foreign visitors was up 18.3 percent over the same quarter last year.
Tourism in Mexico directly creates almost 2 million jobs and is the third largest source of foreign exchange after oil exports and remittances.
The government estimates that Mexico will take in more than $12 billion from tourism and receive some 23 million foreign visitors this year.
