Oslo, Dec 29 (IANS) An 11-year-old boy from southern Norway’s Telemark county has died of swine flu, a media report said.
Citing Norwegian-language newspaper Aftenposten, Xinhua said the boy was seriously ill for two weeks before being transferred from a hospital in Porsgrunn to the Riks Hospital in Oslo.
A doctor confirmed that the boy died of influenza A caused by the H1N1 virus.
The boy’s family members were being monitored by medical workers.
Several schoolmates of the boy were also ill but their condition was not life threatening.
The Department of Public Health said that about 10 percent of the population get flu throughout the winter season. About 900 people, mostly the elderly, die of flu in Norway annually.
