London, April 13 (Inditop.com) “Jules is over and out!! Xxx”. Well, that’s Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet for you in its new makeover on micro-blogging site Twitter.
The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) production “Such Tweet Sorrow” will continue over the next five weeks, The Telegraph reported Tuesday.
Six RSC actors are tweeting the story, which is loosely based on the classic romance.
The actors have been told to respond to each other and to the “audience” as well as to to events that unfold across the globe.
The postings are in 140 characters or less.
Actress Charlotte Wakefield is playing Juliet. She is a teenager who finds solace over not having a boyfriend by chatting on the internet.
She tweeted: “Ok now dads beeping at me from the car!! Gotta dash!! Wish I could tweet at school but… I can’t 🙁 I promise I’ll be back on after school. Jules is over and out!! Xxx”
Juliet’s brother Tybalt, played by Mark Holgate, tweeted: “Gonna be late for class coz i’ve gotta have breakfast. Couldn’t give a crap!”
The actors have been told to improvise around a prepared story “grid” that is set in modern Britain.
The actors are writing the tweets after taking inspiration from their character backgrounds and a detailed diary that has been given to them.
