London, Aug 16 (IANS) An accountant in Britain got so fed up with the ‘wrong’ weather forecasts of the national meteorological bureau, he has started predicting weather using his own equipment.
Simon Cansick, 47, decided to see if he could do better himself and bought his own weather station, positioned it on the roof and linked it to the internet, the Daily Mail reported Monday.
Cansick prepares his forecasts on his home computer and provides live information — automatically updated every three seconds — 24 hours a day.
And it has proved so accurate that farmers in the North Yorkshire village of Duggleby, near Malton, are ignoring the Met Office forecasts in favour of his readings.
‘I just thought I could do a better job than the professionals,’ Cansick, an accountant, said.
He now provides data for wind speed, temperature, rainfall and cloud height. The website, www.dugglenet.org, offers predictions for the next 24 hours, graphs on recent conditions and even historical data.
However, he confines his forecasts to within a 16-km radius.
