Islamabad, Feb 6 (IANS) The UN Security Council (UNSC) should be reformed instead of inducting new permanent members as the inclusion of new members would create new power centres, the Pakistan foreign office said Friday.
Addressing a weekly media briefing, Tasneem Aslam, foreign office spokesperson, said Pakistan’s reservations over permanent membership of the UNSC for India were based on principles, The News International reported.
The inclusion of new members in UNSC would create “new power centres”, she added.
India was organising elections at gunpoint in Kashmir, she said adding that such elections can’t replace the right of self-determination.
“Pakistan has called upon India to honour the commitment made by its first prime minister for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiris,” the spokesperson added.
