London, Aug 1 (IANS) A lot of parents wouldn’t let their kids play outside their homes citing security concerns, but in many cases couples do so to prevent themselves from being labelled as bad parents, according to a new study.
Conducted by Savlon and children’s group Play England, the research has claimed that a generation of children are being denied the chance to play outside because mothers and fathers fear being labelled bad parents, Daily Express reported Monday.
Amy Little, from Play England, said: ‘Parents think others will judge them if they let children play out on their own.’
One in four prefers their child to play on a computer than climbing a tree – and one in five confesses they would feel happier if their child was in front of a computer than playing with pals in fields.
A further 19 percent would rather youngsters stayed indoors, the research says.
Only 15 percent of parents with children up to 16 would allow them out on their own.
Being so protective raises risks of obesity and issues such as attention deficit disorder, say experts.
