Jammu, May 26 (IANS) The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled one of its leaders, A.K. Sawhney, for using vulgar language against Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. But Sawhney claimed he quit on his own.
Determined not to condone ‘dirty politics’, the PDP Tuesday showed the door to Sawhney, who joined the party about two years ago.
A statement from the party Wednesday said an inquiry was instituted against Sawhney for his actions at a party rally April 26.
It said that PDP president Mehbooba Mufti had expelled Sawhney from the primary membership of the party.
‘The inquiry committee has established that Sawhney was responsible for indecency during the rally by bringing a donkey and putting posters of the chief minister on it. Vulgar language against the chief minister was also written on those posters,’ the statement said.
But Sawhney maintained that he ‘quit the party because of the anti-Jammu attitude of the PDP leadership’. He accused the party leaders of ‘working against the interests of Jammu region’.
‘That’s why I have decided to quit the party,’ Sawhney read.
